What type of publisher did I choose?

I have to be honest, I tried some Vanity Publishing companies. To say they get back to you quick is an under statement, like I said in my previous post, they do not worry about making money off of your book. The publishing companies who did get back to me, I listened to each of their pitches and told them that I would get back to them. In the meantime I went onto Instagram and subscribed to their pages. From their I DM’d some of their most recent authors to hear what they had to say. That helped A LOT! You get to hear from them first hand how their experience was with that publisher. Some were positive and some were not.
I also did submit my book to some literary agents and traditional publishers (who did not require a literary agent). Now I had to go through a lot of sites because each publisher is only accepting certain types of books right now. I heard from a few and they were not interested in my book at this time.
No worry, I found a publisher in the middle of the 2. They have been in business for 100 years and it seemed positive. So I reached out and they offered me a deal. Yes, I still had to pay to get my book published, but unlike all of the other vanity publishers they did not offer me 100% royalties, they offered me 45%, so they would actually make money from my sales. I liked how they would make a profit because then they would want my book to succeed. Another thing I liked is that I still own my book 100%, unlike a traditional publisher, they own your book in the end. Also, what I liked was that if a traditional publisher picked me up I do not own them anything or any time. With some publishers you will be stuck with them for at least 2 years before you can take your book elsewhere.
Stay tuned to see how I made out with the publisher. Wish me luck!
